En sus primeros a\u00f1os, muchos profesionales de la salud mental recibieron con escepticismo esta nueva aproximaci\u00f3n. Muchas personas contin\u00faan padeciendo s\u00edntomas de trauma incluso despu\u00e9s de d\u00e9cadas, lo que afecta gravemente su bienestar y dificulta la reconstrucci\u00f3n de una vida plena.
