Desarrollado por la psic\u00f3loga <strong class=\"\">Francine Shapiro<\/strong> a finales de la d\u00e9cada de 1980, este modelo explica c\u00f3mo el cerebro humano procesa, almacena e integra las experiencias vitales, y por qu\u00e9 determinados acontecimientos traum\u00e1ticos quedan \u00abbloqueados\u00bb en nuestro sistema nervioso.<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph\">El PAI no es una t\u00e9cnica terap\u00e9utica en s\u00ed misma, sino un <strong class=\"\">marco conceptual<\/strong> que describe el funcionamiento natural del cerebro para procesar la informaci\u00f3n. Gracias a la aplicaci\u00f3n del EMDR, los terapeutas pueden estimular y reactivar este sistema cuando se ha visto interrumpido por experiencias adversas.<\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"paragraph\"><strong class=\"\">\u00abEl n\u00famero medio de neuronas en el cerebro es de 100.000 millones. El n\u00famero de sinapsis en una neurona &#8216;t\u00edpica&#8217; es de 1.000 a 10.000. Durante un paseo por un parque, Shapiro observ\u00f3 que los movimientos oculares r\u00e1pidos que realizaba mientras pensaba en recuerdos perturbadores disminu\u00edan notablemente la carga emocional negativa asociada a ellos.<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph\">Este hallazgo la llev\u00f3 a desarrollar una hip\u00f3tesis: el cerebro posee un <strong>mecanismo intr\u00ednseco de procesamiento<\/strong> que, bajo ciertas condiciones, puede integrar experiencias perturbadoras de forma adaptativa. La neurobiolog\u00eda del procesamiento adaptativo<\/h2>\n<h3 class=\"\">El cerebro como red de aprendizajes neuronales<\/h3>\n<div class=\"paragraph\">El sistema PAI se va desarrollando a lo largo de toda la vida del individuo. Desde el nacimiento hasta la vejez, cada experiencia vivida queda registrada en <strong>redes de memoria<\/strong> a las que el cerebro puede acceder posteriormente. Estas redes no son simples archivos de datos, sino complejas estructuras que conforman lo que denominamos <strong>aprendizajes neuronales<\/strong>.<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph\">Cada red neuronal funciona como un <strong class=\"\">nodo de informaci\u00f3n interconectado<\/strong> que contiene:<\/div>\n<ul start=\"1\">\n<li>\n<div class=\"paragraph\"><strong>Im\u00e1genes mentales<\/strong>: representaciones visuales de la experiencia<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"paragraph\"><strong>Pensamientos y creencias<\/strong>: cogniciones asociadas al evento<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"paragraph\"><strong>Emociones<\/strong>: respuestas afectivas vinculadas<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"paragraph\"><strong>Sensaciones corporales<\/strong>: manifestaciones f\u00edsicas del recuerdo<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"paragraph\"><strong>Todo est\u00e1 conectado.<\/strong> El cerebro humano no almacena la informaci\u00f3n de forma aislada, sino que crea mapas neuronales donde cada elemento se relaciona con otros, formando una red integral de significado.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 class=\"\">Las sinapsis: la base del procesamiento de informaci\u00f3n<\/h3>\n<div class=\"paragraph\">La complejidad del sistema PAI reside en la extraordinaria capacidad de conexi\u00f3n del cerebro humano. Como se\u00f1ala Isabel Fern\u00e1ndez, cada neurona t\u00edpica establece entre <strong>1.000 y 10.000 sinapsis<\/strong>, lo que genera una red de conexiones pr\u00e1cticamente infinita. El trauma como informaci\u00f3n no procesada<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\">El impacto que el cerebro no puede digerir<\/h3>\n<div class=\"paragraph\">El sistema PAI funciona de manera \u00f3ptima en condiciones normales. Sin embargo, cuando una persona experimenta un <strong>acontecimiento de alto impacto emocional<\/strong> \u2014ya sea un accidente, una agresi\u00f3n, un abuso, una cat\u00e1strofe natural o cualquier situaci\u00f3n que supere sus recursos de afrontamiento\u2014 el procesamiento adaptativo de la informaci\u00f3n se ve <strong>alterado o bloqueado<\/strong>.<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph\">En estos casos, el cerebro no puede \u00abdigerir\u00bb la experiencia de la manera habitual. Por el contrario, <strong class=\"\">reactiva el sistema PAI<\/strong> que ya posee de forma natural pero que qued\u00f3 interrumpido durante el evento traum\u00e1tico. Mediante la estimulaci\u00f3n bilateral \u2014ya sea a trav\u00e9s de movimientos oculares, est\u00edmulos t\u00e1ctiles o auditivos alternos\u2014 el EMDR:<\/div>\n<ol>\n<li class=\"paragraph\"><strong>Facilita el acceso<\/strong> a la red neuronal disfuncional donde est\u00e1 almacenada la memoria traum\u00e1tica<\/li>\n<li class=\"paragraph\"><strong>Promueve la conexi\u00f3n<\/strong> entre la informaci\u00f3n perturbadora y las redes adaptativas preexistentes<\/li>\n<li class=\"paragraph\"><strong>Permite el reprocesamiento<\/strong> de la experiencia, integr\u00e1ndola de forma saludable<\/li>\n<li class=\"paragraph\"><strong>Actualiza las creencias<\/strong> negativas asociadas al trauma por perspectivas m\u00e1s adaptativas<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3 class=\"\">El resultado del reprocesamiento<\/h3>\n<div class=\"paragraph\">Una vez que el EMDR ha estimulado con \u00e9xito el PAI, la memoria del evento adverso ya no conserva su carga emocional negativa. La persona puede recordar lo ocurrido <strong>sin revivir el malestar original<\/strong>.
